Full Take Profit Trader review

15 min read · Updated Oct 28, 2026

Take Profit Trader (TPT) is a Florida futures prop firm with one route to funding: pass a one-step Trading Test, pay a one-time $130 fee, and trade a simulated PRO account you can withdraw from on day one. You trade CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX futures through NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView, Rithmic-based platforms and others. Tests run from $25,000 to $150,000, with a 6% profit target, no daily loss limit and no time limit.

The price is the first catch. The test is a monthly subscription, from $150 to $360 a month, until you pass or cancel, so a slow pass costs more. The second catch is the drawdown: it's end-of-day during the test but trails intraday, including open profit, on the PRO account. And before your first withdrawal you have to build a buffer equal to your max drawdown. This review works through each rule with dollar examples.

The short version

  • Best for: disciplined intraday futures traders who expect to pass quickly and want to withdraw as soon as they have a cushion, with no payout schedule to wait for.
  • Not for: bot traders, anyone who holds overnight, and traders who let winners give back a lot before closing.
  • Biggest strength: payouts. Once you're past the buffer you can withdraw any day, with no minimum winning days and no cap.
  • Biggest risk: the PRO account's intraday trailing drawdown. A trade that's $1,000 up and comes back to flat has already moved your floor $1,000 closer.
  • Our score: 3.1 out of 5. Payouts score top marks; it loses most of its points on price, since a monthly test plus a $130 PRO fee makes it one of the dearer futures firms we track.

Who runs Take Profit Trader

The website and terms name TakeProfitTrader LLC, at 9100 Conroy Windermere Rd, Suite 200, Windermere, Florida. The founder and CEO is James Sixsmith, a former minor-league hockey player whose earlier company, Trade Context, combined education with third-party funding. TPT doesn't publish a founding year.

The terms of service, in effect since 27 August 2024, are governed by Florida law, with enforcement in Florida's state or federal courts. They also include a class action waiver and an agreement to arbitrate individually, plus a clause saying you waive the right to dispute payments with your bank. That last one is unusual and worth reading before you pay.

Test and PRO accounts are simulated. Orders go to Tradovate's or Rithmic's simulation, not to the exchange, and TPT says payouts are funded by test fees, tech fees and its share of PRO+ profits. PRO+, offered by invitation only, is a live account routed to the exchange through Tradovate.

TPT keeps its rules in a public knowledge base, organized as six "core rules" for the test plus separate PRO and PRO+ articles. The homepage, knowledge base and terms mostly agree, and where they don't, we point it out.

Programs and prices

TPT sells one program in five sizes. Prices are the monthly list prices on the homepage, checked on 28 October 2026, before any discount code.

Trading Test to PRO account

  • Profit target: 6% of the account.
  • Max loss: a fixed dollar end-of-day trailing drawdown (6% on 25K, 4% on 50K, about 3.3% on 75K and 3% on 100K and 150K). It stops trailing once it reaches your starting balance.
  • No daily loss limit. The homepage shows the old limit as "Removed."
  • Minimum 3 trading days, for tests opened from 17 August 2026 (5 before that).
  • Consistency: your best day must be below 50% of your total net profit.
  • No time limit, but you pay every month until you pass or cancel.
  • On passing: a one-time $130 PRO fee, then an 80% split on the PRO account.
AccountTest price per monthTargetMax drawdownMax contractsPRO buffer zone

$150,000$360$9,000$4,50015 minis / 150 micros$154,500

Contract limits are the same on the test and the PRO account. There's no scaling plan that cuts your size once funded.

Resets. A test reset costs $79, $99, $139, $169 or $199 by size and doesn't move your billing date. A PRO account can be reset up to three times for $449, $649, $799, $999 or $1,499, which puts you straight back on a fresh PRO account without retaking the test.

Worked example, $50,000 test. Your minimum balance starts at $48,000. Close day one at $51,000 and the minimum moves to $49,000; it stops at $50,000 once you've closed a day at $52,000. You pass at $53,000 after at least 3 trading days. If your best day was $2,000, though, the consistency rule pushes your real target above $4,000 of profit, because $2,000 has to be less than half the total. Note that the floor is checked live: if open losses touch the minimum balance during the day, the account fails at once.

What it costs. Pass the $50,000 test inside the first month and you pay $170 plus $130, so $300. Take three months and it's $510 plus $130, so $640. That's why the cheapest plan on paper isn't always the cheapest in practice.

Which Take Profit Trader plan should you pick?

There's only one program, so the decision is size.

The $50,000 is the sensible default. It has a $2,000 drawdown against a $3,000 target, 6 contracts, and at $170 a month it's only $20 more than the 25K.

The $25,000 is a poor deal. You pay $150 a month for a quarter of the 100K's buying power. It does have the most generous drawdown in percentage terms (6%), so it can suit a trader who wants room to learn on 1 or 2 contracts.

The $150,000 is the best value per dollar: $2.40 per $1K for one month of the test, or $3.27 per $1K once you add the $130 PRO fee. The drawdown is only 3% of the account, so it rewards traders who already size small relative to the balance.

The $75,000 and $100,000 sit in between, at $5.00 and $4.60 per $1K including the PRO fee. The 100K costs only $30 a month less than the 150K, which makes the 150K hard to argue against if you can trade it.

Trading rules in practice

Drawdown: test vs PRO

This is the rule that causes the most confusion, including in TPT's own reviews.

StageDrawdown typeWhen it stops trailing
TestEnd-of-day trailing, but breached instantly if equity touches the floorAt your starting balance
PROIntraday trailing on peak balance, including unrealized profitAt your starting balance
PRO+End-of-day, starting from a $0 balanceAt $0

TPT's own PRO rules example: on a $25,000 PRO account with a $1,500 drawdown, if a trade is $1,000 up, your minimum balance rises to $24,500 in real time. Close it for $500 and your balance is $25,500, but the minimum stays at $24,500, so you're only $1,000 from failing. Read more about trailing drawdown if this is new.

Trading hours

The trading day runs from 6:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET. TPT automatically closes every open position at 4:55 PM ET, and anything opened from 6:00 PM counts toward the next day. If your product closes earlier than that, or a holiday shortens the session, you're responsible for being flat; missing an early close liquidates the account. There's no overnight or weekend holding.

Commissions

TPT sets its own commission on test and PRO accounts: $4.50 per round trip per full-size contract and $1.50 per micro. A full 6-contract ES trade on a $50,000 account costs $27 in and out. Ten of those in a day is $270, or 13.5% of your $2,000 drawdown. PRO+ has a separate commission schedule.

News

The test has no news rule. On PRO and PRO+, you must be flat with no working orders from one minute before to one minute after FOMC statements (Wednesdays at 2:00 PM ET), the jobs report (NFP, 8:30 AM ET) and CPI. Fed speakers and FOMC minutes are allowed. TPT posts the dates on a trader calendar in the dashboard.

Bots, copiers and counter positions

  • No bots or algos of any kind. Every trade must be placed by hand.
  • Trade copiers are allowed only across accounts you own, and only approved tools: Tradesyncer, TradeCopia, Affordable Indicators, Replikanto (compliance edition only) and the copiers built into platforms such as Tradovate, NinjaTrader, MotiveWave and Quantower.
  • No counter positions, meaning opposite positions in the same or closely related products (ES and MES, NQ and MNQ, YM and MYM) across any accounts you control. Long 2 ES on one account and short 1 MES on another gets both accounts liquidated.

Limit up and limit down

You must exit before a CME daily price limit is hit. If the market locks at the limit with your position open, you lose the PRO or PRO+ account.

Minimum activity and account limits

PRO and PRO+ accounts must trade at least one day per calendar week (Sunday to Friday), defined as at least one round trip. Contact support before a break. You can run up to 5 PRO or PRO+ accounts at once and activate up to 10 passed tests every 30 days; extra passed tests wait in a queue. Test accounts are unlimited.

How payouts work

Buffer first. On the PRO account you can withdraw from day one, but only once your balance reaches your starting balance plus your max drawdown. That's the "buffer zone" in the table above, for example $52,000 on a $50,000 account. You can withdraw anything above that at 80%. If the account is later closed, you can withdraw 50% of the buffer.

Worked example, $50,000 PRO. You reach $53,500. Everything above $52,000, so $1,500, is withdrawable. You keep 80%, which puts $1,200 in your TPT wallet. The account drops back to $52,000, still $2,000 above a floor that has locked at $50,000.

Two steps to your bank. Money moves from the PRO account to a TPT wallet, then from the wallet to you:

  • Account to wallet: the dashboard balance updates once a day, between 8:00 and 9:00 PM ET. Since 20 July 2026 this step runs automatically in seconds for Tradovate PRO accounts. Rithmic accounts, PRO+ and closed accounts are still reviewed manually.
  • Wallet to you: an admin approves the request, which TPT says can take up to 12 business hours but is usually faster. US bank accounts are paid through Plaid in real time or by ACH (1 to 2 business days). International traders use Routable, PayPal or Wise, and TPT says Wise and PayPal payouts are processed within 12 business hours. LLC accounts must use Wise or PayPal.

Fees. Wallet withdrawals over $250 are free. A withdrawal of $250 or less costs $50, so a $200 payout would net you $150. PayPal may add its own fee. On your first payout you sign a tax form, and the bank or wallet account must be in your own name.

Split and PRO+. The PRO split is 80%. If TPT invites you to PRO+, the split becomes 90%, the drawdown becomes end-of-day, the buffer requirement disappears, and $5,000 of PRO profit is frozen while the PRO+ account is active. There's no fixed threshold for an invitation; TPT reviews consistency, risk and execution over time. Traders it judges too aggressive can be placed in PRO+ Development instead:

AccountMax contractsSoft daily loss limitEOD drawdown
25K1 mini / 10 micros$500$750
50K2 / 20$1,000$1,250
75K3 / 30$1,250$1,500
100K4 / 40$1,500$1,750
150K5 / 50$2,000$2,250

TPT says it looks for roughly 60 days of disciplined trading before moving someone back to standard PRO+. A net loss of $10,000 of TPT's live capital across Development accounts within 30 days pauses new purchases for 30 days.

Fee refunds. TPT doesn't refund the test fee when you pass. The only refund in the terms is for a change of mind within 72 hours, on an unused account, minus a $75 fee.

A few of TPT's statements don't line up exactly:

TopicHomepageKnowledge base or terms
Payout speedPaid "typically within one business day"Wallet approval up to 12 business hours, then real time to 2 business days depending on method
Withdrawal limits"No restrictions" on profit above the buffer$50 fee on wallet withdrawals of $250 or less
Pass rate20.37% of registered users passed a test (1 January to 31 August 2023)Footer: 36.22% of all tests passed in 2025

The pass rates measure different things (users vs tests) over different periods, so they aren't a contradiction, just two numbers you should read carefully.

Who can sign up

TPT is a US company and accepts US traders, who get Plaid payouts. Its restricted list has about 120 countries and territories, including the Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Morocco, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Malta, Monaco, Peru and Panama. Check the full restricted countries list in TPT's knowledge base before you buy.

TPT enforces this strictly. Placing a trade or even viewing market data from a restricted country once, including through a VPN or remote connection, gets the account restricted or blocked.

Every new registrant goes through KYC at sign-up, usually approved in minutes, with manual review by a team working 24/5.

Reputation

On Trustpilot, Take Profit Trader scores 4.4 out of 5 from 11,022 reviews, checked on 28 October 2026, with 4,251 in the last 12 months. The split is 80% five-star, 5% four-star, 2% three-star, 1% two-star and 12% one-star. TPT claimed its profile in May 2022, pays for a Trustpilot subscription, invites customers to review, and had replied to 56% of negative reviews, typically within two weeks. See the Trustpilot page.

The positive reviews mostly praise quick payouts, the simple withdrawal process and responsive live chat. The negative reviews cluster around a few themes: accounts closed or traders banned after being profitable, with little explanation; being moved to PRO+ Development with smaller size and drawdown; order rejections or platform glitches at bad moments; confusion that the drawdown is end-of-day in the test but intraday on PRO; and PRO accounts closed under the weekly activity rule.

TPT publishes its own pass rates (above). We found no regulator action and no critical coverage of TPT from the news outlets we check.

Mistakes to avoid at Take Profit Trader

  1. Forgetting to cancel a failed test. Breaking a rule doesn't stop the subscription. Cancel it in the dashboard or you'll be billed again next month.
  2. Treating the PRO drawdown like the test's. On PRO, unrealized profit moves your floor. Take partials or tighten stops instead of letting big open gains come all the way back.
  3. Withdrawing $250 or less. Each small withdrawal costs $50. Batch them into one larger request.
  4. Holding near 4:55 PM ET or through an early close. TPT liquidates at 4:55 PM, and products that close earlier, or holiday sessions, are your responsibility.
  5. Running opposite trades across accounts. Long ES on one account and short MES on another liquidates both.
  6. Skipping a week on a PRO account. One round trip per calendar week keeps it alive.

Before you buy: checklist

  • Check your country isn't on the restricted list, and never log in from one while travelling.
  • Budget for two or three months of the test plus the $130 PRO fee, not just the first month.
  • Read the PRO account rules on intraday trailing drawdown before you pass, not after.
  • Put FOMC, NFP and CPI dates in your calendar for when you're funded.
  • Decide on a manual setup: no bots, and only approved copiers across your own accounts.
  • Set a reminder to cancel the subscription if you fail.
  • Use code SCOUT at checkout. See our Take Profit Trader coupon page for how to apply it.

Our verdict

Take Profit Trader has one of the clearest payout policies in futures: build the buffer, then withdraw whenever you like, as often as you like, with no consistency rule on the PRO account. The knowledge base is detailed, Trustpilot reviewers are mostly happy, and the firm publishes its pass rates.

You pay for that simplicity. The monthly test billing, the $130 PRO fee and the $50 charge on small withdrawals add up, and the intraday trailing drawdown on PRO is harsher than what many rivals offer. It suits traders who pass fast, take profit early and trade by hand. Slower or more aggressive traders will find better value elsewhere.
