How it works
Every version starts the same way: money at risk = account size × risk %. On a $100,000 account at 1% that is $1,000.
- Forex: lots = risk ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per lot). With a 20-pip stop on EUR/USD ($10 per pip per lot): $1,000 ÷ (20 × $10) = 5 lots.
- Futures: contracts = risk ÷ (stop in ticks × tick value), rounded down. A 16-tick stop on ES ($12.50 a tick) risks $200 per contract, so $1,000 buys 5 contracts.
- Crypto & perps: size = risk ÷ distance between entry and stop. Leverage needed = position value ÷ account.
In a challenge, size against the daily loss limit, not just the account. If the daily limit is 5%, risking 1% per trade gives you room for several losers in a row. Read the full sizing guide.
