"Free funded account" is one of the most searched phrases in prop trading. The honest answer: you can sometimes get a funded account without paying, but not on demand, and not without competition.
The real ways it happens
- Trading competitions. Some firms run free contests on demo accounts. Top finishers win a funded account or a free challenge. Thousands of traders enter, so treat it as a bonus, not a plan.
- Giveaways. Firms and creators give away challenges on social media. They're real, but the odds are low.
- Fee refunds. Many firms refund your fee with your first or a later payout. You pay up front, but if you pass and get paid, the account ends up costing nothing.
- Free retries. Some plans give you a free retry if you finish in profit but miss the target.
Cheaper, not free
If cost is the barrier, these get you closest:
- Pay after you pass plans start with a small entry fee and charge the rest only if you pass.
- The cheapest firms by cost per $1K of funding.
- Smaller account sizes — a $5K or $10K account costs far less, and the rules are the same.
- A coupon code: try SCOUT at checkout. Each firm's coupon page says whether we've confirmed the saving.
Warning signs
Be careful with offers that:
- promise a funded account with no test, no fee and no conditions
- ask for your exchange or broker login, or a deposit to "unlock" the account
- come from accounts impersonating a firm on social media
Real firms publish their rules, company details and terms on their own website. If you can't find them, don't sign up.
