Glossary · Daily loss limit

What is a daily loss limit?

The most you can lose in a single day before the account is closed.

The daily loss limit caps how much your account can drop within one trading day, usually 3% to 5% of the starting balance. Firms measure it differently: some use balance at the start of the day, others use equity including open trades.

Some plans have no daily limit at all, leaving only the overall maximum loss.

Example

With a 5% daily limit on $100K, you can't lose more than $5,000 in one day.
