An evaluation is a bad time to learn new software. A misplaced order, a stop you can't find or a chart that looks different can cost you the account. That's why the platform is one of the first things to check when you choose a firm.
Forex and CFD platforms
- MT5 (MetaTrader 5) is the most widely offered. It supports expert advisors, has a huge library of indicators and runs on desktop, web and mobile.
- MT4 is the older version. Fewer firms offer it now, so don't assume your MT4 setup will carry over.
- cTrader has a cleaner interface, a built-in depth-of-market view and its own automation language.
- DXtrade, Match-Trader and TradeLocker are web-first platforms many newer firms use. TradeLocker has TradingView charts built in.
Futures platforms
- NinjaTrader is a full desktop platform with advanced charting and a large add-on market.
- Tradovate runs in the browser and on mobile, so there's nothing to install.
- Rithmic is a data and order-routing feed that powers platforms such as Quantower, Sierra Chart and others.
- Quantower, Volumetrica and Sierra Chart focus on order flow and volume tools.
Charting with TradingView
Many traders do their analysis on TradingView. Some firms let you connect your account and place trades from TradingView charts directly. If that's how you work, filter for it — it saves you copying levels between screens.
Crypto and perps
Crypto firms either run their own platform or give you an account on an exchange such as Bybit, Binance or Bitget. Perps firms increasingly use on-chain venues like Hyperliquid.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Is my platform available on the plan I want? Some firms only offer certain platforms on certain plans.
- Can I run my EA or indicators? Check the firm's EA rules too.
- Is there a mobile app? Useful for managing trades away from your desk.
- Are there extra data or platform fees? Some futures setups add monthly costs.
Browse every firm by the platform it offers on our platforms page.
