Glossary · Prop firm
What is a prop firm?
A company that gives traders a funded account to trade and shares the profit with them.
A proprietary trading firm, or prop firm, lets you trade its capital instead of your own. Most retail prop firms ask you to pass an evaluation first, then give you a funded account with fixed loss limits.
You keep most of the profit you make, usually 80% to 100%, and the firm keeps the rest. If you break a rule, the account is closed and you lose only the fee you paid.
