Glossary · Payout buffer

What is a payout buffer?

Profit you must leave in the account above the starting balance before withdrawing.

Some firms, mostly in futures, require a buffer — a cushion above the starting balance or above the drawdown floor — that stays in the account after a payout.

It protects the firm from paying out and then immediately losing the account, but it means your first withdrawable profit is smaller.
